If you updated your iPhone 3G to iOS4, you probably noticed how slow it has become.  Simple tasks such as dialing out and taking pictures have become painfully slow but this can be fixed by downgrading back to 3.1.3!  Also, if you keep getting error 1015 when restoring your iPhone 3G, follow this guide to fix that issue.  The video is detailed step-by-step so you don’t get lost in the process.

3.1.3 Firmware File (.ipsw)

I am new to this. Have iphone3G on 4.2.1. I am trying to hactivate it. Sorry but I am trying to figure out which download redsn04 link to enter. Its for windows.

  6. Jacob says:

Ive jailbroken my phone twice and ive restored it because i thought it was slow because of the jailbreak process but i did some research and its because of the iOs4. Use Redsn0w for your jailbreak its very dependable. Also, don’t follow everything people say on youtube, because it tends to just mess up your Iphone/Ipod/Ipad even more.

  7. Mitch says:

I was unpleasantly surprised to find out that you did not have the SIM installed when you did this downgrade (I did). I got to the last step but my SIM was never activated. All I get is the emergency number screen. What can I do, call AT&T?

    • Mitch says:

Never mind, I got it to work. I think what’s missing in your video is a final statement that says that you can now reconnect iTunes and restore your phone. I was freaking out a little because I didn’t understand why the SIM was not being recognized. After the restore, I had all my apps back, however, there is another caveat you need to mention and that is that your contacts will get lost, unless you back them up onto the SIM or by some other method. Your contacts will be lost because you cannot restore from a 4.x backup file, therefore, you need to sync it from scratch (like a new phone). You will need to save your contacts *before* this entire process (such as Windows Address Book) so you can then restore when on 3.1.x

      • Mitch says:

Yet another caveat to downgrading is that some apps won’t work anymore on 3.1.x. The iTunes store doesn’t let you choose older versions (they only offer the latest) so you’ll be screwed. Example: Facebook no longer works with 3.1.3 and I can’t downgrade what I have. Still, my phone is faster but it’s not the same as before (apps and all)

  37. russell says:

I tried for 3 days to get it working. Tiny umbrella keeps telling me the tss server is not running and do not restore. I kept searching for solutions and finally tried a recommendation from another site. I installed itunes and tinyumbrella to another computer (my laptop) everything started ok. the downgrade went perfect and tiny umbrella worked great to get the iphone out of recovery mode. so, it worked great. for those of you that dont have another computer search the error on utube from a user called guingui212222. It seems to have a workaround but i didnt try it since I’m don downgrading and too frustrated to experiment right now.

  38. russell says:

Working on my desktop now. but not with youtube fix. I went to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc both on my desktop ( 7 home premium) and my laptop (7 pro) and compared the files and dates modified. 4 files are from the original install in 2009 and 2 files were new from the tiny umbrella install in 2012. I just copied the different files from my laptop to a flashdrive and then put it in my desktop and copied those files into my “etc” folder and immediately a firewall warning came up that was blocking a tiny umbrealla communication. I allowed it and immediately the tss server button became active and worked. NOW HOW DO I SHARE THESE FILES WITH YOU. or you can copy them from a working comp.

  39. Russell says:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/kyud3co5xr0vggr/hosts. these are the files i used from my laptop to get tiny umbrealla working on my desktop. I had a ” tss server cannot start. do not attempt to restore your phone” error. hope this helps and hope i did it right.

  40. Samuel says:

Running Windows 7 Home 64bit; Even after fresh JAVA install, TinyUmbrella gives this error before it even gets started: No JVM could be found on your system. Please define EXE4J_JAVA_HOME to point to an installed 32-bit JDK or JRE or download a JRE from http://www.java.com.

  41. Shawn says:

  42. Kelly says:

PLEASE HELP!! When i open tinyumbrella a box pops up and it shows this message:
“Request SHSH from Cydia” is currently set.
This can cause issues if you are trying to save current SHSHs as Cydia is no longer able to reliably proxy SHSH requests.
Please change your settings in the ‘advanced’ tab and click the ‘apply changed’ button or use the ‘edit’ menu to apply changes….
WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN???? PLEASE HELP 🙁
my device doesn’t show up at all.. 🙁
